Anwohner fragen sich in Anbetracht des jahrelangen Stillstands im Grätzel unweigerlich, ob es sich dabei um eine geschützte Arbeitsstätte der Stadt Wien für wenig talentierte Beamte handelt. Zumindest dürften die Angestellten dort im Tagesgeschäft ganz andere Gegenden im Fünfzehnten – wahrscheinlich den neuen Kreativ-Hotspot Reindorfgasse, wo sich seit einigen Jahren hippe Taschenläden, Craftbeer-Bars und Architektenbüros ansiedeln – fördern als ihre direkte Nachbarschaft.

Wie abgelebt die Gegend zwischen Gürtel und dem Auer-Welsbach-Park tatsächlich ist, zeigte sich als 2015 die einzige Bank in der Straße ihre Filiale schloss. Über ein halbes Jahr gab es zwischen der Äußeren Mariahilfer Straße und der Linken Wienzeile keine einzige Möglichkeit Bargeld abzuheben. Und ohne Moos ist bekanntlich nix los – zumindest beim Konsum in der Gegend. Gefühlt haben in der Zeit acht Handyshops, drei Internetcafés und zwei Leggins-Läden zugemacht. Nicht dass die Shopping-Vielfalt dadurch gelitten hätte, prägen sie aber seither als leerstehende Erdgeschosse das Straßenbild und verleihen der Sechshauser Straße den schaurigen Schein des Scheiterns.

Eine andere Pleite hatte für die Bewohner in der oberen Sechshauser Straße ebenfalls lästige Nachwehen: Mit der Insolvenz des Zielpunkt-Konzerns und dem damit verbundenen Schließen der Filiale war die Lebensmittelversorgung zum Problem geworden. Zwar war die Filiale in der Sechshauser Straße 88 nie ein Gourmet-Tempel, aber sehr wohl der einzige Supermarkt im oberen Bereich der Straße. Nach dem offiziellen Ausräumen vergingen Monate bis ein neuer Betreiber, eine größere türkische Supermarktkette, wieder die automatischen Türen öffnete. Um sie nach nur knapp zwei Monaten wieder zu schließen – bis heute. Würde in der Sechshauser Straße 122 nicht der sympathische, bulgarische Greisler „Ariwa Markt“ auf gefühlten zwei Quadratmetern Verkaufsfläche ein ausgesucht feines Sortiment des täglichen Bedarfs anbieten, wären die Grätzelbewohner wohl mittlerweile auch die dünnsten von ganz Wien.

Der Straße geht’s schlecht, das ist offensichtlich. Die Bobos aus der Josefstadt und aus Neubau flüstern sich bei einem veganen Chai-Latte im hippen Nichtraucher-Digital-Nomad-Co-Working-Space dennoch weiterhin zu: „Der Fünfzehnte ist total unterschätzt, aus dem wird noch was!“ Recht haben sie, aber eben nicht morgen oder im nächsten Jahr. Noch herrschen hier die Arbeiter und Arbeitslosen. Und das wird wohl im nächsten Jahrzehnt auch so bleiben. Hoffen wir es, denn die von vielen Ecken geforderte Gentrifizierung hätte doch vor allem für sie nur Schattenseiten parat, da die Kohle von solventen, Hornbrille tragenden Bauherren in Sneakers die Rosette Wiens vergolden würde.
